How do you gather feedback from users?

DifficultybehavioralAsked at Remitly

Question Explain

This question is aimed to understand your ability to engage users to collect feedback, how you interpret this feedback, and how you use it to improve the product or service. It is important to note that feedback is crucial for business growth; it helps to understand what is working well, what needs to be improved, and how to make those improvements. The interviewers are interested in learning both the methods you use to gather feedback (surveys, focus groups, usability tests, etc.), and how you analyze and respond to it.

Key points to consider in your response include: What methods you have used to gather feedback; how you ensure feedback is representative and balanced; how you analyze the feedback to extract actionable insights; how you communicate feedback to other teams; and how you measure the effect of changes made based on feedback.

Answer Example 1

In my previous role as a product manager, I utilized several channels to gather feedback from users. First of all, we had an option for users to leave feedback directly on our platform. Additionally, we conducted online surveys and used web analytics and other tools to gain behavioral insight.

But I believe the most valuable feedback comes from more direct methods, so we also performed regular usability tests and organised face-to-face meetings with our customers which provided a platform for deeper discussions about what users like or don't like about our product.

After gathering the feedback, we held team meetings to analyze it, grouping similar feedback together and finding patterns or significant highlights. The insights extracted would then be communicated to the development team and stakeholders.

Every change we make based on feedback is measured through A/B testing and again, by gathering user feedback on the changes. We found this method continuously boosts our product's user experience significantly.

Answer Example 2

In my previous role as a UX designer in a software development company, I used both qualitative and quantitative methods to gather feedback from users. Qualitative methods included one-on-one interviews and usability studies, while our quantitative methods were largely surveys and data analysis. It was also important for us to create a safe environment where users felt free to share their honest opinions and feelings about our product.

Once we gathered the feedback, our team analyzed and categorized the responses into different issues and themes, filtering the key highlights to focus on. We would then prioritize these based on the significance and the frequency mentioned by users, and we would develop an action plan accordingly.

After implementing the users' feedback, we would again reach out to them to assess their satisfaction with the changes. This approach both ensured that we were accurately addressing the areas of concern, and also that we were continuously improving the product to meet user expectations.
