Design a product for collectible lovers on Facebook.
Question Explain
This is a product design question that aims to assess your creativity, strategic thinking, understanding of user needs, and your ability to conceptualize, design, and discuss a product. Specifically, you are asked to design a product for a specific user group: lovers of collectibles on Facebook. The key points to consider when answering this question include identifying the user needs and pain points, brainstorming feature ideas, suggesting a design interface, considering scalability and monetization, and explaining your rationale or thought process throughout.
Answer Example 1
Collectible lovers are individuals who enjoy collecting various items ranging from coins, stamps, toys, to vintage items. There are currently numerous collectors groups on Facebook, but they are scattered and lack unified features. My idea is to create a Facebook plugin named "Collectible Bazaar".
The plugin would have the capacity to create a virtual "shelf" where collectors can showcase their items with detailed descriptions and images. Each item can be marked as ‘private’ or ‘public’, allowing users control over who can see their collection.
There's also a 'trading and selling' feature where people can trade or sell their collectibles directly to others. It incentivizes users to keep their collections updated and could also function as a mini-e-commerce platform.
To enhance community interaction, a feature called 'Spotlight' can let collectors showcase a particular prized item and share the backstory of acquisition or significance. Other users can 'like', 'share', and 'comment' on each other's items, encouraging engagement.
Lastly, 'Collectathon Challenges' can be held monthly where a certain category of collections would be spotlighted, encouraging collectors to participate and share their relevant collections. Rewards could be discount coupons for the marketplace or badges to showcase on their profiles.
Answer Example 2
For collectible lovers on Facebook, I suggest creating an application named "Collector's Hub". This application is designed to work as a centralized platform that combines collection management and social networking.
An essential feature of the 'Collector's Hub' would be a 'My Museum' interface where users can categorize, catalogue and showcase their collections with pictures, videos, and a detailed description for each item. It would also offer advanced cataloguing features like tagging, sorting, and filtering.
Another feature is 'Collector's Marketplace', which allows users to trade, sell, or buy collectibles from other users. Safety measures like user rating, authentication checks, and secure payment options could be implemented to establish a safer transaction environment.
Moreover, 'Collector’s Hub' could also provide 'Research Support', which helps user to access a database of detailed information regarding different collectibles, their origin, current market price, rarity, etc.
Finally, 'Collector's Community' would be a space for users to join groups of their specific interests, participate in discussions, share tips and advice, and even arrange meet-ups or online events.
Both these solutions aim to keep the user engaged with a blend of cataloguing, community interaction, eCommerce, gamification and information.
