In the current times of AI when content jobs are vanishing at unprecedented rate as reported by Harvard Business Review, Society of Authors UK, WEF, Writers Guild of America and numerous other think tanks and governmental organizations, a sigh of relief is perhaps noticed in July & August as Silicon Valley Tech Firms are hiring for content positions with massive salaries.
There’s an unexpected renaissance in content roles, with tech giants like OpenAI and Meta offering salaries that rival senior engineering positions.
Far from replacing human creativity, AI companies are demonstrating that strategic content expertise has become more valuable than ever before.
Which Companies are Hiring in Content?
Open AI & Meta are leading the race for giving the highest amount of salaries in core content roles. It’s interesting to note that Open AI, the creator of ChatGPT, is valuing human expertise over AI, while Salesforce’s CEO has laid off up to 4,000 employees since 2024, replacing them with the tool.
1. OpenAI
OpenAI's recent job posting for a content strategist offering between $310,000 and $393,000 plus equity has captured global attention.
The role, focused on defining content strategy for ChatGPT.com, requires candidates with 6-10 years of experience in content strategy, copywriting, or growth marketing.
This salary dramatically exceeds the U.S. average for content strategists, which sits at approximately $92,000 according to Glassdoor data.
2. Meta
Meta has similarly signaled the strategic importance of content roles by posting a content engineer position tied to generative AI with compensation ranging from $159,000 to $223,000 in base salary plus bonus and equity.
The company's GenAI content engineering team explicitly seeks candidates with backgrounds in "journalism, social media, creative storytelling, writing, editing, visual arts, film & TV production, and more".
This role requires extensive experience in digital content strategy along with at least one year of hands-on work with GenAI products, prompt engineering, annotation, or content labeling and analysis. The position represents a new hybrid role that combines traditional creative skills with AI technical expertise.
3. Duolingo

Duolingo is hiring a Director of Social Media for $189,600-$342,000 per year. This person will be in charge of their mascot Duo's personality on social media and help translate the Duolingo brand to their followers.
The job needs someone with 7-10 years of experience. Many people on LinkedIn are excited about this role because it shows that companies now see social media as really important for business success.
4. PayPal
PayPal created a new job called Head of CEO Content that pays up to $240,000. This person will write content for PayPal's CEO and help make the CEO look like a thought leader in the business world.
This shows how even financial companies like PayPal now understand that having good content can help build their reputation and trust with customers.
